ralph: John D. MacDonald: author of the much-better-than-it-needed-to-be Travis McGee series of novels
ralph: Travis Mcgee novels were shortish crime novels. But MacDonald was a fascinating guy, and genuinely insightful on the way the culture was headed in the early 60s. He also had an eye for human weakness and a knack for complicated con games. The books are a bit dated but a lot of fun.
ralph: He also went to Harvard business school and fought with Merrill's Marauders
