Orthogonal

ralph: my cousin learned in basic that you hit the ground because the explosion is an inverted cone
betaray: a gun that shoots giant exploding bullets
ralph: less spread at ground level
ralph: but that sounds like crap to me
ralph: unless shrapnel bounces off the ground
ralph: and then it would look more like an inverted mushroom
spruce: seems like it'd just be a sphere
betaray: well most of the force goes up
spruce: or hemisphere
betaray: the shrapnel is evenly distributed, but getting hit by the stuff going up is worse than the stuff going horizontal
betaray: because when you put a backplate to an explosion you double the force orthogonal to the plane
niteowl: man, chatting with americans can be so very horrifying at times
